Concrete and paver patios in Houston

A bigger, better-built patio is the base for everything else outside. We pour concrete and stamped concrete and lay pavers with the base, steel and drainage Houston’s clay soil and downpours require.

Quick answer: A new patio in Houston usually costs $9–$15 per square foot for broom-finish concrete, $15–$25 for stamped or stained concrete, and $20–$35 for pavers, installed with base prep and drainage. A 300-square-foot patio takes about a week. On Houston’s expansive clay, rebar, control joints and slope away from the house matter more than the finish.

Patios & pavers projects we build

Concrete patios and extensions

Extend an existing slab or pour a new one. We dowel new concrete to old so the two move together instead of cracking at the seam.

Stamped and stained concrete

The look of stone, slate or wood plank at a lower cost than pavers. Needs resealing every 2–3 years to keep its color.

Paver patios

Pavers on a compacted base flex with moving clay soil, and a single cracked paver can be replaced. Great around pools.

Pool decks and walkways

Cool-deck coatings, pavers and walkways that connect the patio, pool and driveway, with slip resistance where feet are wet.

Drainage comes first

More hard surface means more runoff. We slope every patio away from the house and plan where the water goes, with drains if needed. Inside the City of Houston, adding a lot of impervious cover can trigger a drainage review, and in a mapped floodplain any new flatwork has to match the existing grade.

Permits

In a mapped floodplain, the City of Houston reviews new flatwork: slabs must match the existing grade or include a fill mitigation plan. Unincorporated Harris County requires a permit to add a patio. Large additions of impervious cover can also require a drainage review. HOAs may limit how much of the yard can be paved. We check your lot and handle the paperwork.

Questions about patios & pavers

How much does a patio cost in Houston?

Broom-finish concrete usually runs $9–$15 per square foot installed, stamped or stained concrete $15–$25, and pavers $20–$35. A 300-square-foot patio is roughly $2,700–$10,500 depending on the finish.

Is stamped concrete or pavers better in Houston?

Pavers handle Houston’s shifting clay better because they flex and can be repaired one at a time. Stamped concrete costs less and has fewer joints for weeds, but can crack as the soil moves.

Can you extend my existing patio?

Yes. We drill and dowel steel into the existing slab so the new section stays level with it, then match the finish as closely as possible or cover both with a new finish.

Do I need a permit for a patio in Houston?

Often, especially if your lot is in a floodplain or the patio adds a lot of hard surface. Unincorporated Harris County requires a permit to add a patio. We check before we start.
