What changes the price
- Size and roof style. A tall gable with a tongue-and-groove ceiling costs more than a shed roof.
- Tie-in. Connecting to a two-story wall or a complex roofline takes more framing and flashing.
- Electrical. Fans, recessed lights, a TV wall and outlets each add circuits and permit work.
- The slab. Many covers need a bigger or new patio underneath; see our patio cost ranges.
- Permits and HOA. Drawings, permits and architectural submittals are part of every job we price.
Common questions
Is a patio cover worth the money in Houston?
For most families, yes. Shade and a ceiling fan make a patio usable most of the year. Remodeling’s 2025 report shows a backyard patio project in Houston recouping about 49% at resale, so value comes mostly from use.
What is the cheapest patio cover?
A shed-style roof or an insulated aluminum cover. A pergola costs less still but doesn’t stop rain.
Do patio cover prices include the permit?
Ours do. Ask any contractor whether the permit, engineering and HOA submittal are included.
